@honeyhiveicecream opened just this past week, a few blocks away from me on Springfield Ave. Naturally, I took my daughter as soon as I found out. We had been at the beach for a couple days, so I figured I’d keep that “ice-cream-every-day” ball rolling to ease back into the swing of things.
It’s going to be a gorgeous weekend, Maplewood. This homemade ice cream shop is right around the corner from the pool, and the smart bet is to skip the pool entirely to avoid the wait, and get ice cream as soon as possible. I’m tagging @paperplanecoffeeco not just because their coffee is used in the cappuccino crunch (you guys gotta post your menu! I can’t remember the name of the coffee ice cream!), but also because I’m pretty sure that’s your wife & kid standing in line over on the right side. Right? (Nice meeting you all!)

* Nut-Free
* There’s a huge difference when ice cream is extremely fresh. You need to do this.
* The Murals
OMG the murals. I may be destined to follow @olgamuzician around and paint every location she puts a new wall mural in, and that’s ok with me because they’re just fantastic. It was only a few weeks ago that I drew her work at Paper Plane in Montclair, and here I am again in Maplewood recreating her work much, much smaller. What you see here is just one of several walls she’s incorporated into the design and aesthetic of the shop as a whole. As a design exercise, it’s clear that the whole team put a lot of work in, and it pays off with one of the best new shop experiences in town - which is starting to become a higher and higher bar.
Also of note, my kid & her best friend Jasper are sitting at the window. @lisakassayboag, Jasper very much wanted to be in the drawing, and sat very very still while I drew him and Sadie in the background.
