Rugburn at Fox & Crow JC

There’s a great story behind this one. Alyssa Siegel (@claritychick), who is seated at the table in the middle here, is the mother of the guitarist, @josh.bagel. If the musicians look at all familiar to you from my illustrations, thanks! Because I did indeed paint them when I stumbled into @coffeeboxrahway and found Josh & @Carter_flames and @etep_rushing playing some chill afternoon coffeeshop jazz. Scroll back & find it. It’s a good one! Or come see a print of it IN REAL LIFE at the @papermillplayhouse’s “Street” exhibit until July 2nd.

Alyssa slid right on into my DMs as soon as I posted that, and asked if she could buy a print of the work and if I was interested in coming out to live draw the band sometime. Equally enthusiastically, I replied “Yes to both!” A month later, here were are.

I should note that Rugburn absolutely tore it up that night. Jazz/Funk/Rock - tight and hot. Someone please tag the bassist and the drummer here! I’m going to assume they tear it up at every performance. I’m neither a coffee, food, nor music critic, but I sincerely applaud these guys and it is now a goal of mine to book them somewhere sometime. Plot twist: I don’t book shows. Not yet at least. The year is young though, and I might be able to swing some stuff at the Springfield Ave Gazebo. Stay tuned, y’all.
